A.R.M.A. Senior Design Team wins the "Best Research Lab-Sponsored Project" award in the Senior Design competition. Mohammed Rachman, Hilmi Mohd Mustafah, Nicholas Pappalardo, and Kemar James worked under the guidance of Dr. Nabil Simaan for two semesters. They designed, fabricated, built, and controlled a tendon actuated channel for upper airway surgery. The team demonstrated the device at the Senior Design Exposition.
The medical robot is a tendon-actuated channel that is specially designed for upper airway surgery. The device is remotely actuated deep into the patient's oral cavity and locked into place once it reaches the desired location. The surgeon can then safely deploy medical instruments through the locaed channel and perform surgical tasks.
A.R.M.A. congratulates Mohammed, Hilmi, Nicholas, and Kemar for the award and thanks them for the hard work throughout the entire year.
