Dr. Kay Xu received his BE and MS in The Speciality of Machine Design, Manufacture and Automation from the Department of Precision Instruments and Mechanology, Graduate School of Tsinghua University, P.R. China in 2001 and 2004 respectively. He joned Columbia University as Presidential Fellow and worked at A.R.M.A. on several projects involving continuum robots. Dr. Kai Xu graduated with distinction in 2009 with a thesis on Design, Modeling and Analysis of Continuum Robots as Surgical Assistants with Intrinsic Sensory Capabilities. Dr. Kai Xu is currently an Assistant Professor at University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong Joint Institute
